Proofreading

Ever wondered why some documents have typing errors? The proofreading process wasn't given the care it deserves.

prreadingBut with changes to the text made through many levels of checking, rushing to meet tight deadlines, and errors made as text is transferred to design files, errors are bound to crop up.

And when you've read through the text many times, you become blind to errors as your brain overcompensates. These errors get discovered too late – when you've already paid for the printing or worse yet, when a client points it out to you.

It's worth getting a fresh pair of eyes to check your documents for unseen errors before you go to print.

When you need proofreading services

Proofreading should not take the place of editing services. The two are not the same thing. By the time your text comes to us for proofreading, it should have been edited and checked for errors, style and content, and assumed ready for print.

You become blind to the obvious

When you've looked over your text so many times in the production process, you become blind to what should be obvious errors. However, your audience, on reading the first time, may notice an error straight away. In fact it will probably jump off the page and scream “Here I am!”. But for you, you've seen the document so many times, you have become blind to the obvious.

Too many hands are involved

You have worked so hard to produce the document and many hands have been involved in the process. As they say, “Many hands spoil the broth”. Certainly errors will have gone unnoticed, or even inserted since your last check.

Never assume that because it was correct on the Word document when you last saw it that it will be correct when laid out in the design.

  • • Fonts can get corrupted when transferred from one design program to another.
  • • Someone in your team may have made changes that were grammatically wrong.
  • • Something as simple as a missing letter at the beginning or end of a word can ruin your message, yet is so easy to miss when you are rushed for time.
  • • The design layout may not be consistent and font styles and sizes may get confused.

  •

  • Make time for proofreading

  • For the reasons above, we advise that the proofreading stage in the production process of your documents is not glossed over. Why work so hard to produce a document only to have errors remain at the printing or customer viewing stage?
